Furigana Injector

Spaceman-Spiff July 18th, 2008

A great add-on for Japanese learners. It adds furigana to kanji characters in webpages with a click of a button. There’s also a preference to set your level of kanji and to ignore furigana for certain kanji characters (that you have memorized).

Mozilla.org has the older version of the add-on. The project page has the latest version that works for FF 3.

Rikai Bar Extension

Spaceman-Spiff September 18th, 2003

I’ve just installed the Rikai Bar extension for Mozilla Firebird.

The moji project aims to help foreign japanese language learners to read web pages. The main goal is to add lecture guides to chinese characters (kanji), but may be extended later to other useful functions.

When browsing Japanese websites, you can click on the Rikai ja button in the toolbar, and the translations of the kanji/kana words will be shown if when you hover your mouse over the words.

It is a very new project, not even in alpha stage, but it looks really promising. The current version doesn’t translate every kanji words/phrases yet though, only about 50%. This will be very useful when you’re learning Japanese, but still having troubles with kanji characters.
