Power Ballad - a relatively gentle song by a rock band aimed to show their softer side.

I was singing "Nothing Else Matters" once, and to my surprise, found out that my friends do not even know what band played it. Pat yourself on the back if you can name them even if you don't consult Mr. Google.

So, sad... what's happened to this band. I almost hate them.

I'm looking for songs along the lines of this. Any recommendations? Doesn't matter if they're not popular.

...Here's one originally from Linkin Park. It's 'My December', covered by Josh Groban.

>download here<

It was a limited edition internet only CD that has the song. I don't know if it's still in print:

I have the original Linkin Park version, if anyone wants that.

Ooh, power ballads.

Have you heard of Rob Dougan? http://www.robdougan.com/home.php
He's contributed soundtrack material to the Matrix movies with "Chateau" and "Clubbed to Death". Those songs don't have vocals but his Furious Angels album does. How deep they are...

I'd say Roxette have quite a few power ballads. Some that come to mind: Fading Like a Flower, Spending My Time, Church Of Your Heart, Queen Of Rain, Run To You, You Don't Understand Me, Wish I Could Fly.

The Matrix OST... I've watched the movies but I only officially listened to one album. The one with Marilyn Manson's "This is the New Sh!t". And P.O.D.'s "Sleeping Awake". But they were mostly vocals, I'll try to look into the songs you mentioned.

Roxette also had "It must have been love" which every girl shoud know (Prette Woman) Grin

I also want to mention the Scorpions because my friend played with them together in the orchestra. They also had some power ballads, for example "Wind of Change" or "Still Loving You".

And I looooove "Nothing Else Matters"

My friend lives in Germany and doesn't have much time. But he told me that he was going to give me a copy of this concert. By the way: He's Brazilian Grin

Interesting. Some of the stuff mentioned here I wouldn't even call ballads, as they were rather mid-tempo. "Is this love" by Whitesnake or "Rough Boy" by ZZtop are what I would call Power Ballads, as they're rather slow and melancholic, but still have a certain toughness to them...

There's of course a lot of ballads by rock bands out there, but not all of them have power. For example: Though I love it and it's a beautiful ballad, I would not mention "More than words" by Extreme in this context, as it isn't a Power Ballad by my definition, even though it is by a rock band... if you catch my meaning.  Smiley

Yes, though I wouldn't consider it a power ballad.

I also have some others by Metallica... 'The Unforgiven' and 'Mama Said'. The former is also quite popular.

Still from the band I recommended a while back (Wolfgang). They have a concept album wherein the songs tell a story.

In every story, there is an antagonist...
http://rapidshare.de/files/1578375/Wolfgang_-_Hell_Looks.mp3.html
----------------->
Can you see me watching, hell looks, I got daggers in my eyes
See me flashing my talons, showing smile
Feel me creeping up and down your back
Thoughts of death of you, rabid on attack

I'm onto you!

Feel me stalking everywhere around that you go
Bitter feelings ravaging my soul
I'm right behind you in case you didn't know
I should have killed you a long time ago

I'm onto you!
<------------------

And then there is the woman...
http://rapidshare.de/files/1578382/Wolfgang_-_She_is_my_Cain.mp3.html
This song is so mild even Blackmago can listen to it. Guess what the woman did to the protagonist.

I really don't want to quantify what a power ballad is... You just know it when you're in a concert and you want to grab your lighter and wave it around...

I wonder if Crispain's band does any of these mild songs. They're hardcore metal. \m/
